Lack of Control and Potential Risks
Bensman discusses the lack of control over the influx of migrants from 150 different countries, highlighting the potential risks they pose. Although some efforts have been made to test migrants upon illegal entry, breakdowns in various border systems have hindered these measures. The primary objective seems to be facilitating as many entries as possible before imposing stricter controls. Shockingly, the book reveals that 169 individuals on the FBI’s terrorism watch list have been apprehended, while approximately one and a half million people have managed to evade detection. This poses a real threat to the country, considering that some of these individuals have criminal histories, including convictions for heinous crimes.
Demoralization and Complex Interests
The demoralization of the Border Patrol is explored in this section, attributing it to the anti-police sentiment perpetuated by progressive liberals who control the immigration portfolio. This sentiment has trickled down to the troops on the ground, negatively impacting their morale. Bensman also highlights how NGOs, such as Catholic Charities, benefit from the surge of immigrants by collaborating closely with the Border Patrol and receiving lucrative contracts. This partnership is likened to an industrial complex, serving its own interests rather than addressing the border crisis effectively.
